Not five minutes ago, I went to get a fork from my kitchen. When I got there, I promptly opened the fridge and stood there for several minutes trying to figure out what the hell I'd come into the kitchen for before I finally remembered. And it's not like I had to go through several rooms or anything - I live in a small studio apartment, I probably had to walk all of 6 steps to get to the kitchen.
My memory has never really been great when it comes to this sort of thing. I think it's because I'm so easily distracted and usually thinking of a million things at once. During one incident in high school, I was looking for my pencil - I looked everywhere, even said out loud to myself, "Where the hell is my pencil?" Yup, it was clenched between my teeth. (That beats any of those time you were looking for your glasses and they were on top of your head - it was in my mouth! And I didn't even notice! Amazing.)
What's funny though is that my brain seems to have ample space for remembering song lyrics (names and faces too, and lines from TV shows and movies). It's ridiculous. I can basically hear a song about 3 times and know the words. Why couldn't it have been calculus? or chemistry?
So when I'm 80, you'll probably find me wandering out on the street singing Beatles songs to myself with no idea how I got there or where I am going.
